Introduction to Psychology

This course introduces psychology as a discipline that studies the basis of human mind and behaviour. This course also describes main sub disciplines in psychology. Topics include introduction to psychology, scientific theories in psychology, biological foundations, cognition, memory, intelligent, human development stages, motivation, emotion, personality, social psychology and abnormal behaviour. This course will be delivered through lecture and students will be assessed via written examination, assignments and presentation.

Abnormal Psychology

The course exposes student to psychology theories and techniques, definition of abnormal behaviour, commonly-diagnosed disorder of infancy, childhood or adolescence (developmental disabilities), mood disorder, anxiety disorder, personality disorder, schizophrenia and psychotic disorder, sleep disorder, eating disorder and sexual disorder. Lecture-based teaching, quiz, individual and group assignment are methods used to achieve the learning objectives of the course.

Group Dynamic

The course aims to expose students to concepts and practice in group dynamics. In addition, students will be introduced to group dynamics, group counselling theories and stages, and leadership in group counselling. Students will also learn how to manage group members with problems/issues, and other important issues in group counselling. Lecture, practical training, individual and group assignment as well as presentation are the methods used to achieve the learning objectives of the course.

Sensory and Perception

The course focuses on aspect of receiving and interpreting the information received. The course also discusses about the information interaction received with the process involved and its effect to the action and thinking. Topics include Gestalt principles of grouping, perceptual constancy, processes in perception and application of sensation and perception.
