Philosophy and Principles of Counselling

The course provides students with an overview of the philosophies and principles of counselling. This course consists of topics such as the history of counselling development, counselling values and ethics, counselling issues and the application of counseling concepts in understanding individuals. In addition, the course includes topics on the humanistic perspectives to promote client wellness, the application of counseling in organizational/professional situations, counselling intervention models and specific counselling functions. The content of the course will be delivered through lecture, individual and group assignment and case presentation.

Adolescent Counselling

This course exposes students to seven major topics in adolescent counselling such as the characteristics of adolescent, fundamental changes in stages of adolescence, adolescent problems, basic counselling skills and strategies, counselling prevention and counselling psychology, adolescent counselling and application of adolescent counselling. Role play exercise, lab-based clinical practice, individual and group assignments are methods used to achieve the teaching and learning objectives of the course.

Application of Assessment and Measurement

This course is designed to expose the students to psychological testing in counselling services. This course focuses on the testing

method, analysis and intervention in counselling and issues pertaining to psychological testing in the counselling field. Lecture-based teaching, case study, individual and group discussion

are methodologies used for achieving the learning objectives of the course.

KMC4013

Career Information System (CIS)

This course is designed to expose students to career counselling information system concepts and skills. The course will focus on topics such as Basic Concepts of Career Counselling Information System, Career Counselling Information System and Database, Information Communication Technology and Career Counselling, System Framework and Analysis, CIS Applications, Issues and Challenges in Career Counselling Information System, and Ethics in Career Counselling Information System. In addition, students will learn how to develop a career counselling information system that can be utilized in career counselling services. Methods of teaching and learning of the course are lecture, tutorials, quiz, individual and group assignment.
